The provisions in the present legislative package flow from measures announced by the Prime Minister and the Minister for Families, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs on 21 June, in response to the Report of the Northern Territory Board of Inquiry into the Protection of Aboriginal Children from Sexual Abuse, 2007, Ampe Akelyernemane Meke Mekarle "Little Children are Sacred"- authored by Pat Anderson and Rex Wild (Anderson/Wild report). Many commentators have noted, however, that there appears to be very little overlap between the 97 recommendations of the NT report and the measures which the Federal Government announced and to which it now seeks to give effect
