SNIPPET: Negotiations on two native title applications from the Bularnu Waluwarra and Wangkayujuru people of north-west Queensland took a step forward today with the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with councils in the region. Future discussions, which also involve the applicants' native title service provider (Queensland South Native Title Services), will look at possible benefits for the parties, such as agreements giving councils use of some land for public purposes and protection for cultural heritage sites. The native title applications are the Bularnu Waluwarra and Wangkayujuru People 1, filed on 6 February 1997 for 22,194sq km of land in the Boulia, Cloncurry and Mt Isa local government areas.

SNIPPET: The Federal Minister for Early Childhood Education and Child Care Kate Ellis and Queensland's Premier Anna Bligh today announced ten new Children and Family Centres for Queensland. The ten centres will target the needs of Indigenous families and their young children, but all families will be able to use the centres. Children and Family Centres are a hub for services that help children and their families develop in terms of health, education and social interaction.

SNIPPET: The Minister for Indigenous Health, Rural and Regional Health and Regional Services Delivery, Warren Snowdon, today welcomed the establishment of the new Institute for Urban Indigenous Health in Brisbane. The Minister said the Institute would integrate health planning and servicing within Brisbane and the surrounding regions to meet the health needs of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander population. strengthening and maintaining key service relationships such as those with the local Indigenous health services, local Divisions of General Practice, private practitioners, allied health service providers and hospitals development, testing and evaluation of `new' models of primary health care delivery to urban Indigenous populations the establishment of a teaching centre in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health through collaboration with the Centre for Indigenous Health at the University of Queensland (UQ).
